In the industrial pork production system, the killing of animals that no longer meet production standards or slaughterhouse standards has become an integral part of daily work. A sow “produces” nearly 100 kg of corpses per year and the French herd 131,200 tonnes*. These are the animals called “bad foot”, that is to say lame, which the slaughterhouses no longer accept, and the piglets which are too frail or which do not grow fast enough.
